When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When you train Muay Thai, wear Muay Thai shorts.
While Muay Thai shorts aren’t exactly high ticket or luxury items, nobody ever minds a good and cheap deal.
In this article, I’ll help you to scoop out some good deals and show you the best spots to buy cheap Muay Thai shorts. Stay with us to the end where I’ll share where you can get Muay Thai shorts for under 10USD which is as cheap as it can get.
Why You Should Wear Muay Thai shorts
Other than the fact that they look cool, Muay Thai shorts are cut for training comfort and freedom of movement. The only way to experience a higher degree of freedom is if you train nude and we don’t really do that. As fun as that sounds.
Muay Thai shorts are also a great way to express yourself just as your clothes do. They come in a myriad of designs and Muay Thai brands are getting more creative over the years.
If you are going to spend a lot of time training, why not try and look good doing it? Looking good and feeling good all at the same time.
Muay Thai Shops in Thailand
Thailand factories make the bulk of Muay Thai shorts for obvious reasons – it’s the home of the sport! There are factories in Pakistan and China manufacturing Muay Thai shorts for some US/UK-based brands but the quality is not comparable to the Thai brands. The fabric is either stiff or rough compared to Thai shorts.
So it makes sense that Thailand is the best place to buy cheap Muay Thai shorts. The majority of gear factories can be found in Bangkok and the city’s outskirts.
The Thai capital also happens to be the center of the world’s top Muay Thai action with the most elite competitions and the best gyms. If you want the best deals, Bangkok is where it’s at.
If you are ever heading to Bangkok, I have a whole article to help you out: “Where to buy Muay Thai Gear in Bangkok”.
In Bangkok and most tourist cities like Phuket or Pattaya, Muay Thai shorts go for around 25-35 USD for good-quality satin models or as low as 5-10 USD for a pair of generic nylon shorts.
Compare this to online prices where standard satin shorts go for around 30 to 45USD and nylon Muay Thai shorts go for around 20USD (depending on where you buy them). You also need to factor in shipping fees if buying directly from Thai merchants.
Where to Buy Cheap Muay Thai Shorts
Clearly the best place to buy cheap Muay Thai shorts is Thailand. If you do get a chance to visit Thailand for vacations, it makes sense to stock up on lots of Muay Thai shorts. The selection is massive and prices are very attractive.
Regrettably, most people don’t have the privilege of living in Thailand or visiting Thailand every year. So for most of us, the best places to get cheap Muay Thai shorts are from Muay Thai online stores.
Even if you have a Muay Thai store in your neighborhood or martial arts store selling Muay Thai gear, prices can’t compare to online prices. Physical stores need to account for rental and other overheads which drive up retail prices.
“Thaiboxing” Nylon Shorts
The cheapest Muay Thai shorts are the generic two-tone nylon shorts with the “Thaiboxing” patch on the waistband. These are the cheapest Muay Thai shorts you will find anywhere.
These shorts are mass-manufactured in Thailand and sold in malls and markets catering to tourists. If you have ever been to Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai or Pattaya, chances are that you have seen one and most likely bought one too.
These “classic” nylon shorts are actually very light and comfortable which make them great for training. The downside is that they become see-through when they are thoroughly soaked which happens a lot in training.
Nylon shorts also don’t last quite as long as satin. With training and repeated washing, nylon shorts can start coming apart in less than a year. Good-quality satin shorts last for years.
It does boil down to individual preferences although the general consensus favors the satin shorts. Most reputable Muay Thai brands manufacture shorts using only satin or polyester-blend fabric which feel more premium than nylon.
Muay Thai Online Stores
Many Muay Thai brands operate their own online shops, offering worldwide shipping on their full catalogue of products. You do need to factor in shipping costs since many of these brands are based in Thailand. However, some of them also offer free shipping to the US.
Express shipping from Thailand to most parts of the world starts at around 20USD and takes only 3-4 days.
Here’s a list of brands and the average Muay Thai shorts prices when you shop from the official online stores with shipping costs to the US based on buy 3 shorts:
|Brand||Average Price||Shipping (US)|
Reseller Online Stores
Besides buying directly from brands, there are reseller online stores that stock a wide variety of brands and models. And then there’s also Amazon.com which is a great one-stop platform where many resellers and brands have congregated.
Resellers typically get a massive wholesale discount by buying in bulk directly from the factories. They are then able to compete on price by selling lower than the recommended retail prices. This makes them the best sources to buy cheap Muay Thai shorts.
|Tip: Combining Purchases|
Shipping may not be cheap especially if you buy from stores that are based in Thailand. Some shops only offer express shipping via premium worldwide couriers like DHL or FedEx. One of the best ways to pay lower shipping fees is to combine purchases with friends buying from the same merchant.
