As has become customary with the promotion, ONE Championship held its “Open Workout” press event today in Bangkok ahead of ONE: Warriors of Light scheduled for 10 May.
6 Thai stars on the fight card took to the stage in a ‘live’ Q&A along with a few rounds of demonstration on the pads. Among the 6 present were fan-favorite Muay Thai stars Nong-O Kaiyanghadao, Petchdam Petchyindee Academy, Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
In Warriors of Light, Muay Thai and kickboxing take center-stage – ONE Championship Muay Thai Bantamweight world champion, Nong-O defends his title while Petchdam fights for the Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship.
This is set to Nong-O’s first title defense since winning the belt in February this year. He takes on Japanese striker, Hiroaki Suzuki for the main event to which he says,
“I will try to protect the title for as long as possible.”
Petchdam, who is Nong-O’s junior at his former training camp, will take on Algerian boxer, Elias Mahmood in the co-main event. The two will clash over the inaugural ONE Flyweight Kickboxing world title in the caged octagon. Speaking to the media, Petchdam says,
“I must not lose at home. Fighting in the cage is unlike the ring. It’s a more difficult game, so I have been practising in the cage to be familiar with it. I have also been working on my boxing to make use of the 4-ounce gloves.”
A total of 12 bouts featuring mma, Muay Thai and kickboxing martial artists have been lined up for the show that will take place at the Impact Arena in the Thai capital. Some of the competitors to look out for include Panicos Yusuf, Janet Todd and the promotional debut of Michael Savvas.
This is a show not to be missed for Muay Thai fans in Thailand. The prelims (undercard) will be broadcasted on ONE Championship’s Facebook page. For the main broadcast, check ONE website for more details.
